The Pipe-Staff, also known as a Joust Rod, was a weapon owned by Number Nine which was left for him in his Loric Chest. On Lorien, Joust Rods were used in sporting competitions in which Nine's Father was a champion. Whilst inactive, the Pipe-staff looks like a plain silver piece of pipe but when activated by Nine, it expands violently to become over six feet long and glowing red, ending in rotating blades. Nine describes it as a part of his body that he never realized to be missing.
When Five's betrayal is revealed in the Everglades, Nine's staff is taken from him and snapped in half, rendering it useless. (The Fall of Five).
