Héctor Ricardo is Marina's/Number Seven's only friend outside of the covent- except from Ella and her Cêpan, Crayton. He holds the title "Town Drunk"- but doesn't drink on Sundays. he doesn't know the truth about Marina being part of the Garde in the beginning of the book, but it is revealed to him by Crayton, near the end of the book.

Relationships

Marina

Héctor met Marina when she was 13. He is often visited by her at the pub, when she feels upset, and he can almost always make her feel better. He always tells Marina that he will keep her safe. At the end of The Power Of Six, Héctor drives the escape vehicle for Marina, Ella and Crayton. Marina obviously cares about him, and wants to help him, as she is deeply saddened when he dies and heals his mother for him.

Death

Héctor dies in the battle between the Mogadorians and Ella, Marina, Crayton and Number Six. He is shot, and then killed by a Piken whilst hit into the lake. In the battle he killed many Mogadorians, and successfully guarded Marina's Chest until his death.

Quotes

He always seems to have a good quote on hand to tell Marina. Here are a few:

  • "The only limits we have for tomorrow are the doubts we have for today."
  • "If you ever know a man who tries to drown his sorrows, kindly inform him his sorrows know how to swim."
  • "My experiences have taught me that things rarely improve with a simple change of scenery."
  • "The key to change is letting go of fear."
